Here we will be comparing multiple filters for narrow-band imaging. This would be for imaging nebulas, Supernova remnant, etc.

Pollution Filter |
• Filters out specific wavelengths, especially those caused by streetlight and most importantly their scattered light which lightens up the night sky • Selective blocking retains natural colours intact but with RGB significantly enhanced, differences in colour and brightness persist. • 95% transmission in the selected spectral range. |
Imaging in the City - For the time being Deep-Sky Nebula can absolutely be done in the big city. This may change when LED street lamps become more common. Results compared to fairly dark skies at Massacre are actually better due to the increased contrast. May want to consider using a filter when imaging nebula in all situations (Light pollution or not).
TRIAD vs Astronomik UHC - Surprisingly the TRIAD does seem to be slightly better than the Astronomik UHC filter.. The blue-green fringe is a little bothersome, and not sure if this due to the lower altitude when imaging using the filter. Need to follow up on this. Price difference of over $500 between the two is quite a sizable amount. Follow-up required.
Imaging of the Elephant Trunk (IC-1396) located in Cepheus.
Want to process the Stack images yourself? Download stacked masters (FIT files) by right clicking image icon and select "Save link as .." from the pop-up menu.
Note: Coma on edges due to sensor being larger than supported by this model HyperStar System, and possible need to tilt sensor.
Imaging hardware is as follows
Optical Tube Assembly (OTA): Celestron C-11 (older model, NOT HD or Edge)
Camera: QHYCCD QHY 128c (Full Frame color, 24 MegaPixels, 14 bit, 6026 x 4028, PixelSize=5.97 um, Sensor=IMX128 )
Tracking Config: Takhashi FS-60C|GuideCamera=ZWO ASI 174MM mini|
Filter(s): Filters are 2" threaded to sit in optical train in front of camera.

Images taken with the Astronomik UHC filter were taken at considerably lower altitude. Not sure what the blue-green ting is on the image maybe due to the lower altitude the images were captured at.
