Yoders’ Constellation Guides

There are 88 recognized constellations in the sky. Provided below are some constellation guides I have developed that highlight some of the more interesting objects in each constellation. These guides are PDF documents, select on the link to view them. 52 guides have been completed and are available below.

Yoders’ Constellation Guide Supplement (PDF) – Explains the conventions used in the constellation guides.

2026-03-28 Updates
Going forward, constellation guides have a new format. The guides with new formats and features are easily identified because they also have the SFP(Sky Safari Pro) file download link. Some changes include:
• New format - I have introduces a number of changes for guides going forward including:
• Updated Introduction Section - Constellation introduction section and maps have been updated.
• Star-Hop Maps - These will be replacing the 4 degree maps for each target.
• Sky Safari Pro Downloads - Constellations with letters SFP represent SkySafari Plus/Pro observation list downloads. Once the observing list has been downloaded to your PC you can import it into SkySafari (Plus or Pro) through iTunes by connecting your device to the PC using iTunes. Open File Sharing, select the SkySafari application. Add the file to the folder Screenshot. The observation list should now be avaliable in SkySafari in the | Observe | Observation Lists | directory.
Make a Contribution: Generally it takes anywhere from 12 to 40 hours to put together a constellation guide. If you find you are really benefiting from them and would like me to keep up the effort you are welcome to send me a donation through Paypal or Zelle. Donate as much as you feel is appropriate. If you donate over $5 and are interested in getting notifications of further updates (ie when the next guide is available) make sure to provide your email in the comments and indicate you want further updates. Thanks!

Claude AI Utilization

Utilization of Large Language Models (Claude AI) is now being used to implement a number of features for the constellations guides. Some of the main usages are listed below with the associated design documents providing reasoning and governing equations responsible for generating the data.

  • Alias Lookup [2026-07-10] – Automation on collection of aliases for objects in the guides.
  • Statistics Lookup [2026-07-10] – Automation on collection of statistics for objects including, values such as magnitude, angular size, surface brightness, separation, etc.
  • Morphology Lookup [2026-07-10]- Automation of morphological lookup for various object types such as Open Cluster, Globular Cluster, Galaxies, Carbon Stars, Dark Nebula.
  • Maximum Bortle Sky Calculation (mBortle) [2026-07-10]- This is the estimated maximum Bortle sky an object may be able to be viewed in. This is based on a number of assumptions (see the document for details); one of the main assumptions is that a 6″ telescope is being used.
  • Minimum Aperture Calculation (mApt) [2026-07-10]- This is the minimum aperture required to be able to identify an object. This is based on a number of assumptions (see the document for details); one of the main assumptions is that the observation is being done in a Bortle 4 sky.
